Industiral Relations Major
What would you like to share with other Friars about your life? Carry on with Friars after you graduate! It's not just something you belong to in your senior year, it's a lifetime pursuit. Our Abbot was my best man at my wedding and I remain in contact with all five living members of our delegation of 20. I wouldn't want it any other way.
FRIAR memory: Wearing the Friar hat on campus Tuesdays and Thursdays and our monthly informal dinners at rotating fraternities.
PENN Memories: I was the single member of The Daily Pennsylvanian summoned by the Vice President to be whipped for an interview and photo with American's most famous fan dancer Sally Rand appearing at the campus vaudeville house (Fay's at 40th and Market). Fraternally: Fraternities were never referred to as frats. The most campus active ones were were Beta Theta Pi, Sigma Chi, Phi Gamma Delta, Zeta Beta Tau and the sororities Kappa Kappa Gamma and Delta Delta Delta. Athletically: Penn, for three of my four years, led the nation in football attendance and we played 7 home games each year and the others never more than 5! Our athletic teams were tabbed "the Red and Blue" never "the Quakers." I recall the rowdiest Rowbottom came on the eve of the Columbia game, the third in our freshman year. Then two years hence after a disastrous rush season, my Zeta Psi fraternity brothers dismantled a trolley car on Walnut Street and were saddled with a two-year Social Probation. My best headline for the D.P. was Red and Blue Twists Tigers' Tail in Spine Tingling Tussle, following our 1936 7--0 victory as the two colleges renewed relations after a 43 year hiatus.
